Power up your day

To kick start your day,your breakfast should be properly balanced with protein and healthy carbs.A healthy breakfast can provide that power to keep you energetic till the half day.Here is a healthy power punch breakfast with right balance of protein and carbs.
over night steel cut oats with quinoa
1 table spoon steel cut oat
1 table spoon quinoa
2-3 cup water
1/2 tsp cinnamon(optional)
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp chia seeds

method- Boil water, add quinoa, steel cut oats, salt and cinnamon.
leave mixture overnight.Next morning reheat the mixture.
serve with your favourite toppings- fresh fruits and 1 tsp chia seeds.

Oats khichri

oats have been known for its tremendous health benefits and nutritive value.Here is one of the interesting and easy way of preparing oats for your meal.For this you need.....
½ cup oats
½ cup yellow moong dal
½ tsp olive oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp green chilli(chopped)
2 ts chopped garlic(optional)
1ts ginger (chopped)
6-8 curry leaves
½ tsp turmeric powder
½ tsp chilli powder
2-3 cup hot water
Salt to taste
Method- soak moong dal in water for 30 min.
Heat oil and add mustard seeds
After spluttering, add green chili, garlic, ginger, curry leaves, turmeric powder, chili powder, cumin, and coriander powder, sauté for few seconds.
Add oats and moong dal. Sauté for few minutes again. Add hot water and salt. Pressure cook for 2-3 whistles.
Serve hot with dahi or mint chutney.

Doing healthy food swaps is another step towards healthy lifestyle.if you are a bread lover bake your own bread which may not be tastier as the gourmet bread but much healthier than that. Else replace bread with roti.
Make sure that next time you open the door of your refrigerator you will just pick up a fruit or some steamed vegetable sticks with healthy dips.
strolling 10-15 minutes after meal is just another healthy start.It will make you feel 100 times better than scrolling your mobile.

Corn salad

Corn -The golden superfood is a nutrition powerhouse,rich in dietary fibre and anti oxidants.Its good for skin, hair and eye.High content of potassium in it helps lower blood pressure. Insoluble fibre present in corn adds bulk to stool and may help prevent constipation. It also helps rid your body of toxins faster.

you can make interesting salads out of corn to enjoy it in summer.

Corn salad


1 cup boiled corn

1 medium chopped tomato

1 chopped onion

1 cup chopped bell peppers

½ cup chopped cucumber

1 table spoon lime juice

2 chopped green chilies

salt to taste

¼ cup chopped coriander leaves

Method-  take a big bowl and  mix  corn , chopped onion, chopped tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumber, green chili, lime juice, salt. Garnish the corn salad with freshly chopped coriander leaves and serve.
